1. |
So, to realize their
dreams, many students try
anything.
To succeed in life, you must be determined.
Peter left home early, to avoid the heavy traffic. (╳)
→Peter left home early to avoid the heavy traffic. (○)
=in order to + 原形動詞
=so as to + 原形動詞
=with a view to + 動名詞
=with an eye to + 動名詞
而在with a view to及with an eye to中的to是介詞, 故其後接動名詞作其受詞, 而不是原形動詞。
例: Ron is saving money |
to in order to
so as to |
buy a house. |
|
|
|
= Ron is saving money |
with a view to
with an eye to |
buying a house. |
= |
To
In order to |
buy a house, Ron is saving money. |
|
|
|
= |
With a view to
With an eye to |
buying a house, Ron is saving money. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
2. |
Remember, though, you can't always rely on luck.
|
=Remember, however, you can't always rely on luck.
例: Bruce is an American. He, though, acts very Chinese.
= Bruce is an American. He acts very Chinese, though.
= Bruce is an American. However, he acts very Chinese.
= Bruce is an American. He, however, acts very Chinese.
Bruce is an American. He acts very Chinese, however.
Though
Although |
he is smart, he's not well liked by his classmates. |
= He's not well liked by his classmates (al)though he is smart.
