本用語是表示禮貌的招呼語, 用於中午十二點以前。
其他相同的招呼語如下:
Good afternoon. 午安。(見面時使用)
Good evening. 晚安。(見面時使用)
Good night. 晚安。(道別時使用, 相當於goodbye之意)

與人道別時, 表『再見』的常用語如下:

Goodbye. 再見。(正式)
Bye. 再見。(非正式, 與熟識的朋友使用)
See you later.再見/待會兒見。
=See you.
See you tomorrow.明天見。

＊此處B故意說"Alligator."取代"See you later."乃因alligator 中的gator與"See you later."中的later押韻。alligator原指『鱷魚』, 此處全無任何意義, 純屬俏皮話, 可視作"See you later."之意義。

a.上列問候語中, 前三個問句均有you, 故可使用下列答句：
問:How are you? 你好嗎？
=How are you doing?
=How are you getting along?
答:I'm fine, thank you. 我很好, 謝謝你。
Great, thanks. 很好, 謝謝你。
Fine, thanks. 不錯, 謝謝你。
Not bad, thanks. 還不錯, 謝謝你。
So-so, thank you. 馬馬虎虎/還過得去, 謝謝你。

b."How have you been?"是"How are you?"的完成式, 故答句不可說 "I'm fine, thank you."或"I am fine, thank you.",而要說"I have been fine, thank you."或"Fine, thank you."。

c.問候句"How's it going?"、"What's up?"及"What's happening?"分別為"How is it going?"、"What is up?"及"What is happening?"的縮寫型。唯實際使用時, 應使用縮寫型。
上述問候句的主詞並非you, 故答句不可說"I'm fine, thank you.", 茲分述如下:
問:How's it going?近況如何？
答:Not bad, thank you. 還不錯, 謝謝你。
So-so, thank you. 馬馬虎虎, 謝謝你。
Great, thank you. 很好, 謝謝你。
Fine, thank you. 不錯, 謝謝你。

問:What's up? 近況如何？
=What's happening?
答:Nothing much.沒什麼。
