注意下列介詞及片語介詞的意思及用法:

a. near...　　在……的附近

b.next to...　　緊鄰……, 在……的旁邊

例: Don't move! There is a snake next to you.

　(別動！你的旁邊有一條蛇。)

c. across from...　　在……的對面

d. in the center of...　　在……的中央點注意:

1) 這些介詞或片語介詞加了受詞之後, 形成表示場所位置的介詞片語,

與there is/are (有……)並用時, 可置於句尾或句首。

例: There is a swimming pool near my school.

  　= Near my school there is a swimming pool.

　(我學校附近有一座游泳池。)

　There are several tall buildings in the center of the city.

  　= In the center of the city there are several tall buildings.

　(市中心有幾幢高大的建築物。)

2) 若介詞片語置於句首時, there可省略。

例: Near my school there is a swimming pool.

  　= Near my school is a swimming pool.

　(我學校附近有一座游泳池。)

　In the center of the city there are several tall buildings.

  　= In the center of the city are several tall buildings.

　(市中心有幾幢高大的建築物。)

＊ 注意片語介詞與介詞片語的不同:

片語介詞乃是二個以上單字所形成的介詞, 如next to/across from/in the center of等, 這些片語介詞之後接了受詞時, 即成介詞片語, 如next to the station/across from the post office/in the center of the city。當然, 單一的介詞之後有受詞時, 亦形成介詞片語, 如near the station/on the desk。

In fact, there is no place like my hometown.

事實上, 沒有一個地方像我的家鄉一樣。

此處in fact是作副詞用的介詞片語, 使用時置於句首, 之後置逗點, 修飾there is...整個主要子句。

in fact　　事實上, 實際上

　= as a matter of fact

例: I am tired. In fact, I am exhausted.

　(我很累。實際上，我累壞了。)

　Jim is late today. As a matter of fact, he's late every day.

　(吉姆今天遲到了。實際上, 他每天都遲到。)

....there is no place like my hometown.

……沒有一個地方像我的家鄉一樣。

此處的like是介詞, 表示『像』的意思。一般而言, like有兩種用法: 一作及物動詞, 表示『喜歡』; 一作介詞, 表示『像』。

a. 作及物動詞時, 句子結構如下:

主語 + like + 受詞 (名詞或代名詞)

例: The boy likes the dog.

　(這男孩喜歡這條狗。)

　Ben is selfish. We don't like him.

　(小班很自私。我們不喜歡他。)

b. 作介詞時, 之後亦須接受詞, 形成介詞片語。這個片語使用時, 要置於:

1) be動詞之後

例: My teacher is like my father.

                          be動詞

　(我的老師就像我的父親。)

2) 名詞之後

　例: There is no place like my hometown.

                           名詞

　(沒有一個地方像我的家鄉一樣。)

3) 主詞之前

　例:  Like John, I enjoy music.

                       主詞

　(就像約翰一樣，我也喜歡音樂。)
