In the heart of America, in the states of Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana, live some people who are not your typical Americans. In order to lead simple lives, they don't use cars. Instead, they drive horse-drawn buggies . They don't use electric lights, either, not to mention telephones. They make their own clothing which looks ancient . And, to make matters worse , they don't speak English but German among themselves.

在美國的心臟地帶，也就是在賓夕凡尼亞州、俄亥俄州和印第安納州，住著一些非典型的美國人。為了過簡樸的生活，他們不開車，反而駕駛馬車。他們也不使用電燈，更別說是電話了。他們自己做樣式古老的衣服。更糟的是，他們彼此之間不用英文交談，而是用德文。

These people are the Amish . They settle d in America almost 300 years ago. Most of them are farmers who stay away from the temptation s of the city. As modern life becomes more and more complicated , the Amish way of life seems to make more and more sense.

這些人是亞米希人。他們在近三百年前來到美國定居。他們大部分都是遠離城市誘惑的農民。在現代生活變得愈來愈複雜的同時，亞米希人的生活方式似乎越來越有道理了。
