上列句中, 使用了"It's high time + that (可省略) 引導的過去式名詞子句" (現在該是……的時候了) 的句型, It's是It is的縮寫; 此句型乃表『現在該是……的時候了』,但卻尚未做, 故為一種表與現在事實相反的假設語氣, 因此其後的that子句中要用過去式動詞, 且若此動詞為be動詞時, 則一律用were。句型如下:

例:"It's (high) time that you got a haircut," the teacher told the
　 student.

a. 若指限定的三者時, 則須使用"one...another...the other..." (一個……一個……另一個……) 。

　 部則是粉紅色的。)

b. "one...the others..." (一個……其餘……) 為用於限定的三者
以上時使用之句型。

例: The test this morning was really tough. Only one student
　 passed it; the others all failed.

　 (今早的考試真難。只有一個學生考及格，其他則全都不及
　 格。)

c. "one...another..." (一個……另一個……) 為用以指非限定的
三者以上時使用之句型。

例: There are different ways to cook this dish. One way is to
　 steam it, and another is to deep-fry it.

　 (這道菜有幾種不同的煮法。其中一種是用蒸的，另一種則
　 是用油炸的。)

d. "some...others..." (一些……另一些……) 為用以指非限定的
兩個群體時使用之句型。

例: Some dogs are friendly, but others are fierce.

　 (有些狗很友善，另一些則很凶。)

e. "some...others...still others..." (一些……一些……而另一些
……) 為用以指非限定的三個群體時使用之句型。

例: It was so hot that some runners slowed down, others
　 stopped, and still others fainted.

　 (天氣非常熱，因此有些跑者的速度便慢下來，有些則停下
　 來，還有一些則昏倒了。)

f. "some...the others..." (一些……其餘……) 則為用以指限定
　 的兩個群體時使用之句型。

例: Some of these grapes are sweet but the others are sour.
