上列句中, 由於主詞是animals (動物), 故其後要用feed on, 表『以……為食』; 若主詞為『人』時, 則要用live on, 表『以……為 (主) 食』或『依……為生』。

a. 表示在『大地方』 (如國家、城市、區域、範圍等), 或表『在……之內』時, 介詞要用in。

例: It's freezing all year round in Alaska.

  　Mr. Wang has a restaurant in the heart of the city.

  　(王先生在該市的心臟地區開了一家餐廳。)

b. 表在『小地方』 (如車站、商店、學校等建築物或機構), 或某特定地點時, 介詞要用at。

例: I'll wait for you at the train station.

  　(我會在火車站那兒等你。)

  　We arrived at the airport just in time to catch our plane.

  　(我們到達機場時剛好及時趕上搭機。)

注意:

小地方如station、postoffice、restaurant、supermarket、 movie theater、school等仍可與in並用, 只是in表示『在……裡面』,  而at則表示『在……那裡』, 也許是在外面, 也有可能在裡面。

例: It was really dark in the movie theater.

  　(電影院裡面真得很暗。)

  　We all met at the movie theater but we didn't see the
  　movie.

  　(我們全都在電影院碰面，但並沒有看電影。)

c. 表示『在……上面』 (如島嶼上、樓層上、街道上、海灘上、或任何東西的表面上等) 時, 則介詞要用on。

例: We were stranded on a remote island.

  　(我們被困在一個遙遠的島上。)
